Introducing “Story Mountain: Whole School Edition“
Writing is as natural as speaking. We all are born with the need to express ourselves, but sometimes this need gets lost in a sea of curriculum and standards.
Bring students, teachers, administrators, and staff together in an all-school writing adventure.
Story Mountain is a 6 week writing program that offers maximum flexibility to each participant. You will interact with me each step of the way as you write your story and learn where to submit it.
Once you create a culture and a structure, you will have a community of writers. Creative writing leads to critical skills.

Here’s how it works:
This is a six week program. Each week consists of a 45 minutes of class that can be broken up into 15 minutes segments depending on schedules and convenience. The entire class can watch the lessons together, or each author can watch the lessons individually, when it’s convenient.
Week 1
- What is a story?
- What goes into making a story?
- How do you come up with ideas?
- How do writers see the world?
Week 2
- Who’s in your story?
- What are the different types of heroes?
- How do you create a hero?
- Do you need sidekicks?
- What do you need to know about your character?
Week 3
- Why are villains the most important element of your story? (Yes, I’m biased about this!)
- Does your villain have a goal?
- How do you create an interesting villain?
- How do you introduce your villain?
Week 4
- How do you build a plot?
- What’s going to happen in your story?
- What is stopping your hero from achieving a goal?
- Can we make the problem worse? (Yes, this part is really fun!)
Week 5
- Why is setting so important?
- Where are we?
- How do you describe the setting?
- How can you use figurative language to paint a picture for your readers?
Week 6
- What is a exposition?
- How do you start your story?
- How do you introduce your characters, setting, and plot?
- How do you edit your story?
- Where can you submit your story for publication?
I will be holding weekly office hours, and am always available via email. No student will ever be left alone to complete the curriculum. I am here every step of the way.
