The other day, as I was huffing and puffing my way up “butt burner trail,” I realized that my favorite hiking spot is the perfect metaphor for creative writing.  At the top of Reseda Blvd., on the valley side of the Santa Monica Mountains, you will find Caballero Canyon. There are three trails, all leading up to dirt Mulholland, which is a section of the famous Mulholland Avenue that was never paved.  You don’t have to worry about cars up there, but you do have to dodge some pretty fast mountain bikers.  It is with these three trails in mind that I created the framework for Story Mountain.

Join me as we explore Character Canyon, Plot Plateau and Setting Stream.  My class is designed for maximum flexibility and uses data driven teaching strategies.  My focus is on making writing fun, encouraging kids to use their imaginations, and improving written communication skills.

 

Classes run for 4 weeks.  Each Monday, starting September 24th, I will upload 3 ten minute lessons to the class page.  Each lesson will have handouts that will take about an hour per week to complete.  All lessons and handouts will remain up through December so you can go at your own pace.  Each class, including supporting materials, is $49.  

 

This is a fun, age appropriate introduction to creative writing.  I can’t wait to see you on the other side!
